What is Thieves Oil?

DIY Thieves Oil by The Clawfoot

Hello lovelies. I have been on a bit of a hiatus and my deepest apologies! I’m working through getting it all figured out. Okay, well, that isn’t entirely true. I can say that I don’t think I’ll ever have it all figured out. But I’m working on ME. Have you ever worked on yourself? Well let me tell you something friend, it’s hella time consuming!!!! In addition to that, I have a full-time job still, taking care of my family and trying to build not one but two businesses!!! I’m working with several coaches myself right now on myself and my businesses.

I might be crazy….

But I’m so passionate about working on my coaching business. If you are not familiar, in all my self journey, it lead me to not only becoming a certified aromatherapist but also to realizing my calling to help others. Primary, mothers who have lost themselves, their identity, their passions while being a mom, wife, overall superwoman. My goal is to help them find their inner goddess which will only make them an even better mom! In addition to that I’ve been working on the latest collection – The Soulful Collection, which will be launching soon. I know, I know, I’ve said that before. I’m so sorry, the release date keeps getting pushed back. But I promise it will be within the next few weeks!! So keep an eye out on that release. But now I’m back and ready to kick start my blog again and post to you guys more consistently. If there is EVER a topic that you would like me to address, please, please, please go ahead and either comment or reach out on social media.

NOW….lets get into what this post is actually about!!!

Thieves Oil. Have you heard of it? Well, legend goes something along the lines of the 15th Century there was a group of brothers that would go around and pillage those who died from the plague. The theory was they never contracted the plague themselves because they covered themselves in an herbal blend paste all over their bodies. This kept them “safe” from getting sick while they robbed the dead. Crazy story I know. But the “thieves” blend of essential oils has become increasingly popular. Just about every Oil Company has their own blend that they sell. I will not say that one is better than the other. It’s pretty much your personal preference. My personal preference is of course always on the affordable side. So I make my own. I’m going to give you the recipe that I use and then some ideas for use.

DIY Thieves Oil
-this will make a stock bottle-
Clove Bud, 40drops
Lemon, 35 drops
(Sometimes I use 20 drops of lemon and then 15 drops of Orange)
Cinnamon, 20 drops
Eucalyptus, 15 drops
Rosemary, 10 drops
***Mix them together in a dark colored dropper bottle***

Some ideas for use:

It makes an incredible addition to home cleaning products. It also is amazing in a diffuser. The scent….oh the scent. But the properties are where it’s really at. When you add drops to your diffuser, you are filling the air with all of the amazing benefits of each oil (antibacterial, anti fungal, antiviral, antibacterial, antioxidant).

I will put it out there that a lot of people on the internet will recommend that you ingest this oil. Well, they will recommend that you ingest a lot of oils. However, this one seems to be the bigger of them all that is attached to this recommendation. If you follow me, you know that I don’t recommend the ingestion of oils. This is because it’s something that should only be done under the supervision of a clinical aromatherapist. I have not trained on this subject so I can’t promote it. But……to each his own, this is just my personal opinion.

How I use the oil is primarily within the home for cleaning and air purification.

  1. As mentioned above, diffuse. It will clean & purify your air. If you don’t have a diffuser, you can put a pan of simmering water on the stovetop and add a few drops to it.

  2. For all purpose cleaning, you can add about 25 drops of oil to 32oz water, shake well and spray away.

  3. To 1 cup baking soda, add 5drops of your blend, spread on a baking sheet and let dry overnight. Then put into a jar for storage. Sprinkle on your carpet before sweeping.

  4. Make a paste for a cleanser (like a soft scrub) using a base of baking soda add enough white vinegar to make a paste then add a few drops of the blend.

  5. Add a few drops onto the filter of your vacuum cleaner, while running it will scent the air

  6. Add a few drops to the water bucket when mopping your floors

  7. The only time I’m going to tell you to put this in your mouth is if you have a sore throat, add a few drops to a glass of warm water and gargle – but be sure to spit it out!

  8. For aches & pains, add to a carrier for a wonderful massage oil

  9. If you feel a cold coming on, add boiling water to a bowl and add 1 drop of oil to the water, place your head over the bowl and cover with a towel. Breathe in the goodness.

  10. For inflamed, itchy or irritated skin, you can add a few drops to a spray bottle of water and squirt your irritated skin or you can add to a carrier and massage into the effected area.

Okay my friends, I hope that you you have enjoyed this post. Give it a try, let me know what you think.

Until next time, Much AromaLove <3
