“A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” I’m not sure where I read that quote or said it but it was very powerful to me. I think there are several different ways you can understand it. For me, it was in regards to my own confidence. When I walked into a room, I would immediately judge myself compared to everyone else in there with me. -I’m not as pretty as….. -I’m not as successful as…. -She is dressed so beautifully, I look like a bum. -Her hair is perfect mine looks like crap. -I’m way to fat to go stand next to her, she is so thin! -I have no idea what to say, I don’t want to seem like an idiot. I mean you get the point right? It wasn’t until I really started doing the inner work that I realized, I was sabotaging myself before I even walked into the room. The self-defeating mindset I went into it with, I didn’t stand a chance at being myself and feeling good about it. Here’s the thing, a broken identity leads to a break in your self-esteem. If you allow your identity, your confidence, to be shaped by others instead of from within, you will always have the self-defeating mindset because you will never be able to live up to the phantom expectations. You will always be concerned with what others are thinking, what they say, how they perceive you even if it’s all in your own head. And if there is judgement coming from others, that is on them. That’s their inner issues and insecurities shining back at them. It has nothing to do with you. It’s not until your confidence is self-generated that you can truly stand within your self and shine your light from within. That is where your power is, within yourself. So let me ask you this.
